System Relationships - Storytelling

This project looks at the power of storytelling and the tools used to tell stories. Stories are told through various mediums, to share cultural knowledge and as a force for cultural change. This project looks at the relationships within each of these aspects of storytelling.

System Elements: Storytelling tools consist primarily of oral communications, art and technology. Almost all of these tools can communicate to a mass audience. Technology has limited value on a one to one more personable basis with the exception of email or phone call. This is interesting to note as it becomes a more dominant form of storytelling.

Storytelling in Exhibit Design

As an exhibit designer I was interested to map out storytelling in exhibit design. Exhibits are often used to tell cultural stories. This begins with a request to tell the story, the designer then does research and determines the medium and design for the storytelling. The exhibit is then protyped, built and installed. In the end the designer observes people interacting with the exhibit and works to understand what key concepts/emotions/ideas people are taking away from the exhibit.
